Nerello Cappuccio Grape Variety

Like the Nerello Mascalese variety, the Nerello Cappuccio grape variety is cultivated mainly on the slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily, and Calabria. The Cappuccio is slightly darker in colour and is less tannic than the Mascalese grape. The name of the Nerello Cappuccio apparently comes from the odd shape of its leaves – cappuccio means a hood or a cowl in Italian. Wine from the Cappuccio variety have a bouquet and flavours of cherries, vanilla, minerals, coffee, and can be slightly floral.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
