Malvasia Istriana Grape Variety

The Malvasia Istriana grape variety is used mainly in the production of orange wines. It is thought that Venetian merchants first brought cuttings of the vine from Greece. The wine is cultivated predominantly in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is also found to a lesser degree in Emilia Romagna where it is used to make a sparkling wine. The Malvasia Istriana variety tends to make light, fruity or floral wines with possibly mineral or almond notes.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
