DOC

DOC or Denominazione di Origine Controllata is the equivalent of the French Appellation d’origine contrôlée and was introduced in Italy in 1963. It guarantees that the wine is made from grapes grown in the area specified according to laid down methods. These wines are most easily identified by the label around either the neck of the bottle or over the cork. There are currently 333 DOC areas.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
