Barbera Grape Variety

The Barbera grape is native to Piedmont, but can now be found elsewhere Italy. It is grown primarily in Piedmont, Lombardy, and Emilia Romagna. It is low in tannins, high in acidity, and deep purple in colour. It has flavours of tart red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, dried herbs, lavender and spices. The best DOPs are Barbera d’Asti and Nizza.

We visit wineries, restaurants and other highlights to give you the information you need to plan a great trip to Italy. We can design itineraries, advise on bookings and show you the Italy that the tour companies don’t tell you about.
